Well Tyler finished the four unbelievably hard years of Medical school and is now Dr. Tyler!! Really still hasn't sunk in yet and we are 8 months passed graduation! He started his ER residency back in July of 2014 and has been at the hospital ever since.. Jk but feels like it sometimes!! He is quite incredible. I think he is a robot. He can work with very little sleep and still manages to put on a smile as he opens the door ever morning or night.

What have I been doing, well learning to have my own life outside of our married life! Such a weird feeling as its always been Ty and I and that is how I made my/our plans! Now I have to make my own plans and not expect him to be home. It is quite crazy but I think these are all great learning experiences in life. My job is still just as amazing as it was back in November of 2013. Love it everyday and am so lucky to have a crazy amazing boss! That really does make the difference people… find a boss that you want to be and take the job!

Tyler and I just got back from a week in California! Ty had never been to CA and I had only been twice for two quick work meetings! (aka I got to see the inside of CA hotel rooms:)

We started off our trip in San Francisco visiting one of my dearest friends! She lives in this little sleepy beach town right outside of San Fran. It is gorgeous, precious and so relaxing… (those would be how I describe her too :) its a perfect fit!) It is a weird feeling now staying at your friends house over night and seeing how they"live". I used to know how all of my friends 'lived' in college and now its a totally different life! I just love knowing what she gets to wake up to everyday, the streets she gets to walk her pups down and the house she will bring home her first baby to. Makes me so happy.

After a couple of days with her, Tyler and I traveled to Napa together. I can explain Napa only one way…...OBSESSED! I just LOVE Napa. I haven't felt more relaxed and happy in months! I love the look, feel and the people! We had a great time. I could drive all around California for the rest of my life. It was so beautiful.

One of the many wineries we visited!

We headed back to San Fran for a work meeting of mine but still got a a few moments alone for dinner and walking around! I am not sure if I loved California so much because of the beauty and activities or the time I had with Tyler. Uninterrupted and so special. I wish we could do that four times a year! We are really going to try to make it a point that we do one vacation just him and I each year. Family trips or weddings don't count! As much as I love them, it just isn't the same!

Quick update as the Pink Lovey link on my Google tab has been giving me the stink eye :)

Well I did this today!!! It was one of those moments when I was so embarrassed :)

My fantastic cousin invited me to the Justin Timberlake concert this weekend and I have been so excited! My Cousin informed me a few weeks ago and gave me the date, time, etc. I added it to my calendar right away.

We made plans for them to come to Hoboken and shop around before we headed to the concert. I was excited and made sure Ty knew my plans. We made sure to get all of our errands done early, cleaned the house just in case and I started to get dressed. They were to come around 2pm so I made sure I was out of the shower and getting dressed before they left.

It was 3pm and I still had not heard from them that they left their house and thought that was so weird. This point my hair and make up is done and Ty was asking me what the plans were.... Well I texted my cousin to see if they had left yet and I got a call from my cousin.

As I sat on the couch in full make-up, hair straightened, house clean my cousin says... "Kara the concert is tomorrow...." :)

I turn beat red as Ty is sitting next to me smiling :) I decided the 9th was a Friday and just added it to the calendar without even checking...... Man did I feel stupid :) Poor Ty is such a good sport and just smiles at me..... ANYWAYS.. JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE tomorrow!! Kara Ohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13906248527656510083noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2953272343121628802.post-19530723345032592892013-11-05T12:06:00.002-05:002013-11-05T12:31:03.644-05:00Where are we now? We are two months from the end of 2013. I. Can't. Believe. It.

Last time I posted was January 2013. Clearly life has been quite busy and the blog has taken a back seat. I don't remember why I started to blog but I do miss it sometimes and will try to see if I can get back into it.

So where are we in life/medical school?

1. Ty is a 4th year Medical Student and will graduate in June of 2014. Less than a year.

2. We are in the process of applying for residency which is such an unbelievable experience. (more on this in a bit)

3. I am back working for the company that I started my career with and am LOVING it!

4. We still live in NJ, but this could definitely change within a year.

5. I am the Aunt of two precious identical twin boys. My sister and brother in law welcomed two boys this October and I am quite obsessed.

6. This December Ty and I will celebrate 2 years of being married. CRAZY!

That is the short recap of our lives this past year :) Medical School is definitely the culprit of our time (and money). My husband is a champ and is doing a fantastic job as a medical student. Medical school cannot be prepared for or taken lightly. It is a bear :) and sometimes a mean bear, but Ty is dedicated to becoming a doctor and I am so proud of the doctor he is becoming. If you have not given your doctor a hug lately please do :) They spent a lot of money, time and energy to get where they are (not that we all haven't) but Med school is no joke.

So how to apply to residency? Well in short you create one big application and send it to hospitals with thousands of other students :) It is super competitive and not easy or cheap. You hope that your hard work and dedication will pay off but we will not know till match day this March. Fingers crossed for my main squeeze as we get through this stressful time to hopefully light at the end of this tunnel.(really long and extremely expensive toll tunnel)

We are loving the gorgeous weather in NJ. Fall is fantastic and makes the holidays that much better. Luckily this year we didn't have any storms like we did last year. Sandy really set us back and am happy this year to be hurricane free :)

Well I am now living in Hoboken, New Jersey with my husband who is half way through his third year of medical school; we survived a hurricane and a flood; I am back on the job hunt again; and it is now 2013.. WHEWWWW

2012 was our first year of marriage and it was amazing! We loved every second of our time together and finally moved into our first apartment together. (grenada didn't really count because we couldn't decorate) Moving to NJ was a shock as we thought we would be in Brooklyn, NY. So it was an interesting day for Tyler and I when his lovely school decided to give us a heart attack and place us in Hackensack, NJ. We decided on Hoboken, NJ as it was close to the city and a short drive for Ty to Hackensack. We absolutely LOVE Hoboken and the city which is a quick subway ride away. Moving to NJ was the biggest pain I have ever encountered... oh yah and super pricey! We could have bought a car for what we spent on the moving truck, brokers fees, paint, furniture, ac units and advil for our sore bodies :)

Back in October as many people saw Hurricane Sandy pummeled NJ. Unfortunately Tyler and I didn't think it would be a huge deal so we didn't prepare as much as we should have. We had about 3 feet of standing water in our building so our car was declared flooded after the storm. Tyler and I could have never seen this coming as we have lived through many hurricanes before. We are lucky we live on the 5th floor as all of our belongings were dry only our new car was gone :( About 3 weeks ago we FINALLY got a new car and are hoping to not have to go car shopping for another 3 years.
Tyler is doing great at the hospital. He has experienced a lot of exciting things and has also learned to live off only a few hours of sleep. Every day my respect level for doctors rises as I watch my husband leave before 530 and come home on some nights after 9... Incredible. He will not let me take his picture so this is the best sneak photo I could do :)
I am back on the job hunt after working for a NY based company for a few months. After only a couple of months at the company they decided to close the department and lay off over 25 people. Tough day... I was shocked and looking back have learned so much about myself and corporate america. It has also allowed myself some time to really look at what I want to do moving forward. Not to mention catch up on some of my favorite shows :)

Not sure what inspired me to open my blog today but I did.... I should have been blogging the last few months as we have had some entertaining times around here... Just to name a few... failed dinners, mice, decorating, 21 hour drives home, trips down the stairs, trips up the stairs (yes its possible to fall up stairs) Squirrel friends and more..
I will do my best to continue updating but to tie you over here are a lot of photos to document our latest journey..
I saw it somewhere yesterday... it said The most difficult challenge is leaving.... That hit me hard... the most difficult challenge is leaving. Such a powerful statement for so many of us who are leaving and actually some who are staying too. It means so much to me and I know to many others...

Coming to Grenada was not easy for anyone. Even if you are excited for a new opportunity or in my case excited to move to where your husband is it is still quite scary. It is a challenge leaving your friends, family and comfort. Its exciting of course but its just a scary jump to make. you are living in a third world country, very far from home and it is SO different from the US. Fast forward almost a year since i have been here on and off and its a totally different challenge. The challenge now is leaving Grenada.....
You would think going home to friends, family, the u.s. would be a no brainer but throw in some amazing amazing women and some precious kids and you have a whole different ball game.
So I have met hundreds of amazing women in my life and I adore everyone of my relationships, but these are different. Many of them are very new friendships but goodness are these women amazing, they are selfless, fun and crazy smart women. I think its because we are all in the same boat we are all down here together, working toward the same goal. don't me wrong not every women here is special like these handful I'm talking about, but these handful are incredible. These women EVERY day yes I said it EVERY day do something for others. Its incredible and so eye opening. I am NOT saying goodbye because I know its not BUT see you soon because these women have taught me so much! Today two very amazing women Laura L & Laura C created a DVD of pictures with music to go along with it... Seriously we just lost it watching them. They are beautiful and I will cherish it forever. I am so grateful for the time and energy they put into my dvd because I will keep it and watch it when I need a little pick me up/cry...incredible. I honestly know God puts you some place for a reason and these women are reason number 1...
Now down to the other challenge reason #2. The kids... I fall hard, but I have fallen really hard for these kids. I know this is not my journal but I feel like I am abandoning these kids. These precious kids who should not be in the home in the first place, these kids that should get hugs and tucked into bed every night...These kids who I have fallen harder for than just about anything else in the world. I am jumping on a plane to head back to the US and Leaving these precious children.... Challenge is the biggest understatement I could think of.
Leaving Grenada has nothing on leaving the US. It has been the BEST year of my life by far and I just can't imagine not seeing my babies every week. They seriously make the worst day so amazing....
I have been very emotional about leaving Grenada... I am not ready, don't want to leave and feel like I am abandoning my babies..... But last night as I laid in bed with my hubby he promised this wasn't the last time we would see the babies, or be in a position to adopt. He promised me we would do Doctors without Borders to help babies around the world..... He told me he thought I was the most caring person he knows (he must not know too many people....) and he just rubbed my backed as I cried about leaving my babies.... Kara Ohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13906248527656510083noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2953272343121628802.post-1746995155830434002012-04-29T12:45:00.002-04:002012-04-29T12:45:37.038-04:00Im obsessed with Turtles...I Know its such an odd title but my husband just said to me this morning "man you really love turtles now" and its true I had the most amazing experience last night and I love/am obsessed with turtles!

Last night at about 6:00PM about 25 Significant Others (wives, Girlfriends, fiancés, etc) Loaded up in a big bus and drove about two hours to the northern tip of Grenada! You can see in the picture below we are in Point Salines thats where the school is and we went all the way to Levera Beach to watch the turtles. A few fun facts before my pictures!

Leather Back Turtles are the largest turtles and the the largest living reptile in the world. The turtles can get up to 6.5-7 feet long and about 2,000 lbs!!!! The females lay clutches of about 100 eggs several times during the nesting period.

The leather back turtles are Critically endangered and there was a research team Ocean Spirits that stay throughout the entire nesting period. They sleep on the beach and are up from sun down to sun up watching for turtles and assisting the turtles when they get to shore. They track and tag all of the turtles that come to Grenada and a lot of times the Moms go back to the same place they were born to go lay their eggs. Out of about 1000 eggs about 1 will make it to adult hood. The mom we saw has been nesting on this beach for the last 6 years.

It was an amazing experience, we sat on the beach for about 30 min until we got the call that a mom was ready and started to dig! They wait to allow people to come up until they are fully committed so we don't disturb them. There are no flashes aloud and you have to be very quiet. The mom works so hard digging about a 3 to 4 foot hole and then lays about 100 eggs. (last night our momma laid 109 eggs) When we were leaving we got to see two more coming to shore and one just finishing up laying. I seriously was ready to call my husband and let him know I was moving to levera beach for the rest of the season.

It was that incredible, if anyone has the opportunity PLEASE go watch! It is a lot of waiting and for us about a 2 hour drive but one of the most amazing experiences in my life!!! Now to pictures... Here she is!
My journey here and time in Grenada has been incredible. I am soooo glad I moved here and will never look back because I have grown and learned so much.

There has been a lot going on, can't talk too much yet but really exciting things! I have been interviewing to go back full time for the last month or so and let me tell you its exhausting! So much going on, but all of the time and travel has really paid off. I am moving up to NYC in 35 days...yes you are reading it right! I land in Florida on the 17th and move on the 20th. It is such a world wind and I can't wait for the next step!
While I have enjoyed mastering jenga with our dishes on a daily basis, I would love to be able to just put them right into a little machine that washes them for me! Seriously, I appreciate a dishwasher more than anything right now after finishing our huge load of dishes!! I am quite proud of cooking in almost every night, but I miss being able to just run out and pick up a great ______.... I keep telling Ty, I have been tested in Grenada with very few ingredients to cook with. Example 1: I went to get limes today...Excuse me can you show me where the limes would be?....... "no limes today.." Kara has a sad face and walks away. Can you imagine Publix just completely being out of limes? Or MILK! Milk is always gone. OR if there is a huge shortage the grocery stores back home would post a note of sincere apology. Here no milk, no cheese, no limes.....

We officially have a count down, back to the USA sign. Our cleaning lady who I adore to pieces saw the sign and said I see you all are counting down the days. It made her sad, and I know I will miss her, the little kiddos, and the gorgeous beaches....

Sincerely,
51 days left in paradise
Can you believe it?!?! All that is left is March and April and we will hardly have a May and then we are back in the U.S.! I seriously cannot believe it!! So many great things have been going on in our lives and we are so lucky to share them with our family!
This past weekend, I was so fortunate to share Grenada with my Dad! It was a short 2 day visit but it was so fun to show him around! I so wish my whole family could experience Grenada but unfortunately flights are outrageous!! Luckily there are videos and pictures of Grenada to last a life time!

This was our second visitor, Ty's parents were our first and its so fun to have one. It's almost like we are on a vacation too!! Crazy that we have only 2 more months and we can no longer say we are residents on the Caribbean! It has been an unbelievable experience and can't wait to print pictures from our crazy adventures when we are back in the states!

Next week we get the list of rotations for where we could possibly be for the next two years. I have been talking about the day when we have to rank where we would like to be and goodness we are right around the corner! We will be new residents in AUGUST!! Life does fly by, I remember the day where I was when I found out Ty got into SGU. I was so excited for him but also so nervous and scared for 2.5 years of long distance. 2 years later we are now married living together in Grenada and now planning our move to NY very soon. How time flies!!

My health is still not back up to par yet.... It is really tough to be around 27 little ones in Grenada and not get sick. Unfortunately that is the risk I take going to visit every week. I try to be as careful as possible but unfortunately some things I can't control. Back to the doctor tomorrow for a check up and if things don't go well I will be making a quick trip home next week!!!

I will post some pictures soon of my recent days in Grenada!!

Kara Ohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13906248527656510083noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2953272343121628802.post-71082104875551386822012-02-16T21:10:00.004-05:002012-02-16T21:10:25.588-05:00So Thankful....For America :)I think everyone should live on an island or in a third world country, it is eye opening!!!!!! I just love this little island, adore it really. Not sure how I feel about leaving here soon, but I do appreciate my country more than I ever have in my life.

I know the U.S. is soooooo far from perfect, but I do have to say how thankful I am for all of the hard work people have put into our country and health of their citizens. Yes we have a long way to go but after my first experience here in a doctors office and hearing about Tylers experience in the hospital here I think we should all be thankful for a few seconds.....

I know I am lame and corny BUT I just am missing my convenience and comfort back home this week. I miss the comfort of my doctor, my CVS down the street, my clean and always stocked publix, and my family. I am so lucky that I have my husband down here who won't leave my side unless I ask him to, who tucks me in every night, and usually wakes me up with the biggest smile on his face during the week days! I am also so lucky for my precious little children down here that give me the BIGGEST hugs everyday I walk in! I never feel more loved :) I have enjoyed taking them to dinner once a week and can't wait to continue it tomorrow night!!! KFC here we come!!

Anyways, I am so lucky to have this time here in Grenada as I learn to appreciate what I am soooo lucky to have and learn to help others everyday.

My Dad is landing bright and early on Saturday morning to come visit!! I cannot wait!!!! Not quite sure what we are going to do yet...Eat......sit on the beach.....eat....I will keep thinking!!

I love my little island of Grenada... adore!
I was a bit of a grump! I haven't been feeling the best so I decided to head to the campus clinic to see a doctor. I signed in and noted I was the wife of a student, waited 25 mins to then be called in. I was asked what I came in for then she said so you are not a student correct, well you need an appointment! Even though it says clear as day NO APPOINTMENT necessary! She said yes we should update that.. GRRRRR!!! She said I could make an appointment for tomorrow but I was so angry I made an appointment someplace else! No way they are getting my money.... This was the first time I felt a little helpless in Grenada...Im used to having my doctor right down the street who I trust and always solves my problem but here I know no one and do not trust anyone... I do have an appointment tomorrow at 2 and am crossing my fingers it goes well :) Anyways I came home in a terrible mood and Ty suggested maybe you should go play with the babies..... Excellent idea and that is just what I did...

Here is little man Delante, cute as can be. He was so snuggly today and I just love that! I get sad when he just wants to run and play and stop cuddling :( He is really starting to try to talk, so fun!!
When I say they I mean the kids at the home here in Grenada! There are 27 kids who are currently living at the Belaire orphanage in Grenada. I am so lucky to have found the home and now almost visit them daily when work isn't crazy! These kids are just some of the most precious kids ever.

Is it super hard? YES Do I cry sometimes? YES Do I want to take them all home everyday? YES But I have never in my life felt more wanted by someone.

You walk in the door and you are literally tackled by at least 6 kids just for hugs, they want to know how long you are staying and when you are coming back before you even start to play... Breaks my heart! Discipline as you can imagine is VERY tough with about 20 kids under 8 and 2 workers taking care of all of them! Did I mention 6 of them are under 2 and 1 is 6 months!!! What a handful, they do their absolute best and they really do love the kids. It is nearly impossible to discipline and have order with so many kids and also have one on one time with the kids. So I suggested that as a reward system if we get good news back from their teachers and they are good at home then Ms. Kara will take two kids to dinner a week!

KFC to these kids is the holy grail! They just LOVE the chicken, fries and oh yeah Ketchup! They would eat the ketchup alone!! All joking aside, KFC is such a treat to them! Its delicious and also so much more food than they normally would receive. So I am so happy and just love to be able to do this!

Last week was my first trip with a 4 and 6 year old! Goodness I am either becoming very old or just having an emotional night because I seriously just about cried 10 times. They were so excited.

The night started off with me picking them up and they seriously still wouldn't believe me until I told them to get dressed. They got in my car and had a little bit of water and a handful of fishies!!! (gold fish) We then went to the stationary store and bought a new pencil for school and a little tiny notebook. We then left for KFC! The line was SUPER long but they got a kick out of being there!! Remember this is their first trip to a restaurant and later to the grocery store! They ate every last piece of chicken, fries and TONS of ketchup!!! We then left to go to the grocery store to pick up a Popsicle!!! We ate our Popsicles in the car and headed back home! It was a fabulous night and all I wanted to do was just take them home with me. It was so rewarding and I can't wait till Friday when I get to bring two more kids to dinner! Here is a great video of them at KFC, and shondell's first time using a straw! So precious! The second video is just a video to hear (can't see them too dark) but I love listening to them talk about the night!

So much to catch up on and to chat about! So I have a new name, its a new year and I guess I should say I now HAVE a husband and not a NEW one :) He is so handsome by the way and I love calling him my husband!

As you may or may not know I went home in October to finish planning the wedding. I thought I was way ahead of schedule until I touched down in Orlando.. it was a rush of planning and constant to do lists! Would I do it over again and go home sooner... probably not because I loved my time with Ty but would I like to plan a wedding again..probably not! Haha! I just adored my wedding and loved having all of my family and friends all in Orlando for the wedding. I do wish we could do it all over again but not plan it again!! I have a couple sneak peak pictures to share :) more to come soon!
I had heard there was something called the wedding blues. Where after planning your wedding for so long you get pretty sad when its all said and done; I had a feeling I would have that because all the way up to the end I enjoyed the planning process. BUT Ty and I were so lucky because I hadn't seen him in 3 months, then a week later our wedding, then a week later Christmas, a week later our Honeymoon, then a week later back to Grenada! It was NON stop for about a month which kept my mind very occupied. We had an amazing Christmas, and an amazing (very lazy) honeymoon! Here was our daily schedule on our cruise.. sleep in.. breakfast...pool or off the boat...back on the boat to shower...nap...get dressed for dinner...dinner..go out.. to sleep! For 9 Days!! It was just fabulous!!!

We are back in Grenada now and I just LOVE it here! I guess I would say I love the time with my new husband! Don't get me wrong I love Orlando BUT here I get him all to my self. Im so lucky! I have been at the orphanage here in Grenada almost everyday. 2 new babies and my old babies who I adore! I get so much back from those little kids and I am going to miss them when we leave in May!
He just looked sad. This is his second Thanksgiving that he has been down in Grenada and not back home. There is nothing like your moms thanksgiving and I know he misses it so much! I told him today though it is the very last Thanksgiving he will ever be alone!! I will be there from now on and I will be able to whip up my very best thanksgiving meal!! No promises! It makes me a bit nervous as I am not yet ready to do a whole meal alone YET!! Today I did a broccoli casserole and the mashed potatoes! The turkey is what is a bit frightening but who knows maybe next year it will be show time!!

It is just crazy to think Tyler and I might be in New York next Thanksgiving! It will be such an exciting time for us, but just crazy that we have no idea where we will be for another 9 months!!!

I hope you all are surrounded by your family and friends and you have lots of little blessings. I have so many I just can't even believe it. I am living a dream life right now and have SOOO many people to thank especially my family!

I hope your tummies are full and happy!!!

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!Kara Ohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13906248527656510083noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2953272343121628802.post-50280930330050914712011-11-17T22:41:00.001-05:002011-11-17T22:56:45.440-05:00Paging Kara Wright?? Kara Wright?? Anyone!?!?Well Hello there!!!!

My mom wondered if I quit and gave up??!?! My answer is WEDDING OVERLOAD! I have to say I was pretty calm and collected regarding our wedding UNTIL I came home in October and realized my life is now CONSUMED by our wedding. Not only am I planning the wedding but I also have to do it with my cute fiance thousands of miles away :) Oh yah and have I mentioned he is quite busy down there, like 7AM-2AM studying!!!! I never realized what a labor of love a wedding is. Yes I knew it was a lot of work but had NO idea how much love, energy and time you put into 1 weekend. Everyone says it is so easy to loose sight of actually what the weekend is about and let me tell you I have had to remind myself several times this week!!!

I have to say I am over the moon excited to become Mrs. Kara Manis! I am incredibly incredibly lucky to have the most amazing girlfriends on this planet! Seriously I can't even explain how these girls have been! One of my bridesmaids was 1cm dilated and having some contractions and CAME to the entire bachelorette weekend! seriously?!?!
Or how about I had a DOCTOR take off an entire weekend of saving lives to come celebrate with me... Seriously!?!?!
Or how about my sister who had EVERYTHING under the sun monogrammed with my new initials and the most amazing weekend decorated just the way I dreamed it would be!!!!
Or How about I had 17 of the most amazing girls completely spoil me and just surround me with the most amazing gifts and love!! YES these are all 100% real!

There are moments when I just wish I was on the beach in Grenada (of course in my dress) and its just tyler and I and we are barefoot, and we get married just the two of us and our pastor :) (we flew him down) The weather is a little breezy, No mosquito's (yah right :) ), really pretty music and a gorgeous sunset. Just Ty and Kara.... I am so thrilled to be his wife and I think he knows that!

So that is where I have been, oh yes and I have I told you I am in the process of serious working out and dieting. It is so much fun! NOT!!!!! I have to be patient and I am 100% not patient!! Omg I thought after like 4 weeks of working out I would look like brooklyn decker... well unfortunately I'm FAR FAR from her, but I still have 30 days!!! AHHH its crunch time so if you don't hear from me you know where I am trying to steal a Victoria Secret Models body!!!!!!

12-17-11 Can't come faster!!!!!!!!

P.s. did I mention how much I miss this little one!! I think about him daily and hope he is being hugged and kissed every day while Aunt Kara is away :)

Kara Ohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13906248527656510083noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2953272343121628802.post-18340596813666583272011-09-19T10:39:00.001-04:002011-09-19T10:39:51.134-04:00A little slice of home...I have just returned from my trip home and I am back safely in Grenada. It was a whirl wind 8 days! It was amazing but I literally did NOT stop! It was great seeing all of my girlfriends and all of my family, it is never enough time with my family but loved seeing their faces!!

If I have not filled you in on my obsession in Grenada it is the Bellaire home for children! I met this little guy named Delante and fell hard, very hard. I have never had the feeling of desperation for a little one. It really started when I went to visit the home and walked in to see the little guy just playing in the crib alone without any toys, blankets, air conditioning etc. The homes staff are great and love all of the kids, BUT you can only do so much with so many kids. It was the first time I felt that I could change this child's life, I could feed him better, love him more, and give him a home with air conditioning and a lot of toys! I know Ty and I are not ready for a child, it would be very tough planning a wedding, adopting a child, finishing med school, moving to NY, etc.... it would add a whole angle to the mix! So what I have decided is I will love on them as much as I can and spoil them rotten until I have to leave!! I love love Delante but I also have become obsessed with all of the kids, they are so great! I have a little video of delante clapping and a few pictures of him in his new FSU jersey I picked up at home!!!
Excited/not excited! Excited to see my amazing family and friends, NOT excited to travel for a full day tomorrow! My day will start at 7:30 and I will not be home probably until 6:30PM. I will update you on my experience when I am home because I am not sure if I mentioned, I hate the Miami airport more than I hate lizards! (and I really really hate lizards)

A couple of updates on Grenada...... Baby Goats!!!!!! You would think living on an island I wouldn't be showing so many pictures of live stock but there is a goat in the field across from our place and she had three babies!!!! Ty was in a rather studious mood so he would not let me go near them or pick them up.. COME ON TY!!!! How often do you run into tiny goats the size of a baby!?!!?!?! I am thinking maybe when he is done studying so much I can talk him into it after a few glasses of wine :) I will keep you posted on this!!!! here are some pictures!!
Famous Cow! This little guy LOVES the camera, if you remember he was on my blog recently and when I walked up with my camera I swear he just about put his hoof on his hip and gave a wave to the paparazzi!! Here is another great picture of him... I need to name all of the animals now that I think about it!
There are a lot more students this term so maybe that is the deal but I took a picture so you can see my frustration when I am trying to find Pastry flour!!!! I know it was a long shot in Grenada where they don't even have GUMMY BEARS!! What country doesn't have gummy bears or REESE'S!!! Come on Grenada!!!
Last but certainly not least you caught me at a very bad time to write this but I just went to pay our Internet bill at the bank. They take a lunch break and close all of the stores here, (why not who needs to go to the bank at lunch time!!!!!!! like everyone Grenada!!) So I go and stand in line outside the door, you have to wait outside and they then let you in. I walk up and I am the 2nd person in line and there is a security guard standing to facilitate the line just in case there is like a riot or something... Anyways there he is playing away on his phone and then he looks up and walks to the door and closes the door behind him and flips the sign to closed!!! I swear I just about lost it, oh wait I did loose it!!! All of the students who were in line were pissed but just walked away, I proceeded to walk up to the door and knock till the kind gentleman opened the door. Yes???? Me in a not so nice attitude... Can I give you a tiny piece of advice sir.....Next time you have customers waiting in line and you know you are going to close at a certain time how about you let them know they might not make it or tell them to come back at a different time?!?!? He to me "well mam did you read the sign!?!??!" (I read every sign while I was standing there so i knew there was no sign) "ummmm no I didn't read THE SIGN sir, can you point it out to me!??!? Umm its right.... oh it must have been taken down....... My blood was boiling!!!!
We have lived in a bubble and its unbelievable how much living in Grenada has made me realize how blessed we really are. I already knew we were very lucky but no where near how I feel now. There are a lot of little quirks here that you just have to laugh about and realize its just Grenada!!! So i have become a master when it comes to a few little quirks!!!!

1. Master of hand washing dishes!!! Fortunately and now unfortunately, I have always had the luxury of having a dishwasher! Of course here we do NOT. Since we try to cook in as much as we can that = a lot of dishes!!!! I have become very good and pretty darn quick if I may say so myself!! Here is our little Grenada kitchen!!

2. Master of Sunscreen!!! If you have seen pictures you will know I have very fair skin. The Grenada sun is killer!! It will burn my pale skin so fast, so I try to wear sunscreen as much as possible! My goal is no burning at all, and so far my sunscreen application process has paid off!! Tyler told me last night he thinks I am tanner than him! Can you believe it!

3. Master of the shower knobs!!! We are very lucky to have REALLY hot water and very cold water. Some students don't really get hot water. We on the other hand get scolding hot water and freezing cold, and you have to find that perfect middle ground. Tyler and I probably use the shower knobs to adjust the temperature at least 10 times each shower! I have it down almost pat!!

4. Master of driving on the left! This is a bit of a scary one but after driving for 9 years on the right it is a constant mental note "left, left, left". I just about have it down, Now I am not saying I am a MASTER of driving, but a master of driving on the left.

5. Master of empty grocery shelves!!! The shipment or boat of food for IGA the nicer grocery store here comes on Wednesday or Thursday depending on their journey. You have to be VERY quick when it comes to milk, bananas, eggs, juices and really any fruit! I have been pretty good at improvising if its not there but have it down to make my trip on Thursday or Friday!

6. Master of Bug Spray!!! Holy bugs!! I have it down to a science, just about every day I put on bug spray. The bugs here will get you and I think love my pale skin. So I never leave home with out my bug spray!!!!

Just wanted to share some of my new skills I have acquired since I have been in Grenada! Do you think I can get a job with any of these master skills when I am done here?!?!

Signing off for the day, off to the beach...

Master KaraKara Ohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13906248527656510083noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2953272343121628802.post-88855572844438673962011-08-30T22:19:00.005-04:002011-08-30T22:34:47.470-04:00Stroll on the beach..Work has been very busy this week, like crazy busy!!! I am supposed to be working 35 hours for one company and I am going to bet I am going over my 35 hours by at least 10, but what do I do ignore the customers who are in need? I can't, I would feel too bad so I am putting in over 40 hours recently...I am so grateful that my company is allowing me to work from an Island so I enjoy the work I am doing and am happy to help out my great bosses!

Today though I needed to get out of the apartment. The difference from home is here I sit in a very small living room and do not really move. I don't walk outside, I don't run to Moe's for lunch, I don't run to UPS to ship a box...etc... I have started to be a little stir crazy... So today I told Ty I needed to go for a walk. I walked the beach and drove around a bit and enjoyed the beauty of this amazing island with my camera....
